AYLESBURY’S ALOTMENT OWNERS GROW A CHEER AT THE 6TH ANNUAL AWARDS EVENING
On a dark, wet and miserable evening last Wednesday (29th September), Worlds End Nurseries served as the venue to brighten things up. Graciously hosting the 6th Annual Aylesbury In Bloom Allotment Awards Evening, hopeful green fingered allotment owners were out in force to see their hard work over the last season be rewarded.
Each site was visited by a tough panel of judges who marked individual plots on a number of variables, including quality of produce and variety. Awards were given the best three plots from each site. On top of this, the Roger Green Cup served to reward the best newcomer. This was won by Ms. Rolls of the Ardenham Lane site. The night culminated in the presentation of the Freda Roberts Trophy for the overall winner which was given to Ms. Smith of the Old Stoke Road site.
The Mayor of Aylesbury, cllr. Graham Webster was on hand to give out awards. He commented after, ‘…it was an absolute pleasure to see people’s hard work go rewarded. Aylesbury’s allotments are a real asset to the town, and go to demonstrate the hard work, determination and horticultural knowledge of our residents.’
This year Aylesbury Town Council worked in partnership with a number of groups who helped support the awards. Outdoor supervisor, Mr. Robert Taft, gave his congratulations at the end, ‘…we would like to thank Worlds End Nurseries for all their generosity, and the sponsors who kindly helped provide the shields awarded. This year’s awards have been a fantastic success, and deservedly so.’
Aylesbury Town Council manage seven allotment sites throughout the town. Ranging in size from 43 plots, to a massive 194 plots.
