Charter Day
Take a free Trip Back to Tudor Times to celebrate Aylesbury’s Historic Charter Day and Tudor Fayre!
Sunday, 12th September 2010, 11am – 4pm, Market Square, Aylesbury
There’ll be all sorts of free Tudor fun on offer including workshops and plenty of hands on activities. The Tudor Astrologer and Astronomer will amaze you with their stories and experiments; there’ll be Tudor candle making, a Tudor dyer and even a Ratcatcher! Learn how the Tudors used bone and horn, find out what the surgeon barber does and be entertained by the popular Peet Fool Tudor Jester. There are also heaps of other demonstrations and activities this year such as Toy casting, candle making and pottery – where you can take home your very own pot!
The day is kicked off with a Tudor dance by children from St. Mary’s School, accompanied by music performed by period music group Lumina. You can enjoy some genuine Tudor music played on instruments of the time, and there’ll even be a Dragon Dance to enjoy throughout the day. You may even bump into King Henry VIII! Why not have a go at some Tudor dance moves yourself with the beautifully dressed Arbeau Dancers?
The day commemorates the granting of a Market Charter to Aylesbury by Mary Tudor on her accession to the throne of England – better known as Aylesbury’s Charter Day.
Don’t forget –
