Romans Fun Day

Sunday, 19th June 2011 in Market Square from 11am-4pm.

Give your dad the chance to be a Roman for the day at our free Roman Fun event!

This Father's Day the Romans are due to descend on Aylesbury! With a great variety of childrens roman themed activities such as mosaic making, pot making and Roman games there'll be plenty to keep the kids (and dads) happy. Keep your eyes peeled for Roman soldiers and enjoy listening to the authentic music accompanying the day - played on reconstructions of Roman instruments.

The event is free to attend and there's plenty more to do in the town that day which is free too. A short walk from Market Square you will find Bucks County Museum, which will be holding a 'Hands on Romans' Exhibition.

Discover the story of half a million years of life in Bucks from the Ice Age to the Tudors through the people and objects left behind. See Roman objects from the County Museum collections alongside amazing loans from the British Museum - some never before shown in the county! Touch Roman pottery and mosaics, try on a toga and build an arch. Lots for all the family to see and do. Opening hours are 2pm-5pm on Saturdays, 10am-5pm weekdays. If you haven't got time to make the exhibition that day, don't worry - it runs from the 7th May until 2nd July 2011.

To contact the museum, please call 01296 331 441, or email museum@buckscc.gov.uk.

Live music will also be featured in Kingsbury Square on the day as part of ‘Summer Sunday Music’ organised by Aylesbury's Town Centre Partnership and part funded by Aylesbury Town Council. The music will be taking place from 11.30am - 2pm, and details of the acts performing will be available here and in local press nearer the time.
