When it comes to cycling, Aylesbury Town Council is leading the way. Given the high percentage of staff who enjoy the benefits of cycling, it seemed natural to sign up to the Cycle To Work scheme. This is a government backed initiative which allows employees to get a bike and cycling equipment at a significant discount to retail prices. The scheme works in collaboration with Buckingham Bikes, so will also be providing a benefit to a local independent business.
Keith Turner, Town Clerk, was one of the first to subscribe to the scheme, kitting himself out with a town bike and panniers to get to and from work. Bikes purchased under the scheme can also be used for leisure rides, and during the warmer months, the Clerk explored the canal tow path under pedal power. Daniel Parslow, Project Officer, also took up the scheme with a faster road bike helping to cut down the commute.
If you are an employee of Aylesbury Town Council and are interested in taking up the offer, please contact the Project Officer who will be happy to assist you in the process. You can also look at the Cyclescheme Website for more information which features a handy calculator allowing you to see the savings that could be made.
Cycling In Aylesbury
Cycling enthusiasts rejoice! Aylesbury is the place to be when it comes to all things bike. Since 2005 when Aylesbury became one of the Government’s cycling towns, more and more residents are leaving the car in the drive and hopping onto the saddle. Buckingham Bikes, a local independent cycling retailer, have had to take on extra staff to meet service and repair demands.
Cycling to work is increasingly popular. Cycle Aylesbury have recently unveiled the Topaz Way, connecting Hawkslade with the Town Centre and brining our modern cycling network to nine dedicated routes. This is complimented by 250 secure parking stands.
If you want to join in on the fun, you don’t need to look very far. Buckingham Bikes is an independent retailer near Kingsbury Square. A huge range of bikes and accessories is provided by diligent and friendly staff. Alternatively, Halfords offers the obvious consumer benefits of a nationally established business. Both offer mechanical checks to make sure your equipment is safe and serviceable.
