4, 5 and 6  MARCH, 2016

A nationwide campaign to get a million people out and about cleaning up their communities is being backed by Aylesbury local authorities.  Aylesbury Town Council are working alongside Aylesbury Vale District Council, Bucks County Council and Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust, encouraging and helping residents of area to take part in the campaign.

Clean for The Queen aims to give the country a tidy-up ahead of The Queen’s 90th birthday in April.

The campaign, backed by organisations including the Women’s Institute and the National Trust along with anti-litter charities such as Keep Britain Tidy and the Campaign to Protect Rural England, aims to be the biggest community-led clean-up the country has ever seen, centred on a weekend of activity from March 4th to 6th, 2016.  Local communities are encouraged to ‘do their bit’ by joining together to improve our local landscape.

To take part, please register your “event” at info@aylesburytowncouncil.gov.uk stating the area you will be clearing and when.  Help will then be given to ensure that all the additional litter you collect will be disposed of appropriately.  This could be your street, your club, your school or community group clearing just a street or an entire park or public space.

There are also national competitions for the public to nominate ‘grot spots’ for a professional clean, for more information visit www.CleanForTheQueen.co.uk where you can also find links to other useful sites and information.

Allison Harrison, Aylesbury Town Mayor, member of Aylesbury Town Council and Aylesbury Vale District Council said: “We are delighted to be supporting Clean for The Queen and we would encourage as many groups, individuals and organisations in Aylesbury to take part.  This very worthwhile national campaign is a fantastic opportunity for local communities to get together to make a direct impact on their personal surroundings.  Let it be a litter pick in your street, removing all rubbish, debris and weeds; your school cleaning up all routes to and from the school; a club transforming an open space or area of natural beauty.  By us all pulling together we really all can make a difference.”

Clean for The Queen campaign director Adrian Evans said: ‘We hope a million people will join us in a mass litterpick to give our beautiful country the facelift it deserves.  Litter is a problem that councils across the UK spend the best part of £1billion clearing up every year. By taking part in Clean for The Queen and clearing up the country, individuals and communities will not only be giving The Queen a suitably impressive gift to mark her 90th birthday, they will also be giving themselves and their area a present – a clean space in which to live, work and play.’
