Aylesbury Town Council supports communities to clean up as part of country’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign

Aylesbury Town Council has pledged its support for this year’s Great British September Clean, run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

The campaign, which was postponed in early spring due to Covid-19, will run from 11-27 September 2020. It will encourage the Great British public to take part in small, socially distanced clean-ups to remove litter from streets, parks and beaches across the country.

Aylesbury Town Council are offering Litter Pick Kits to anyone who would like to participate in the Great British September Clean.

Aylesbury Town Mayor, Cllr Mike Smith, said: “By giving as little as 15 minutes to litter pick participants in the national campaign could make a huge difference. The Great British September Clean is a chance to do something good in small groups of no more than five people and to help keep local streets and parks tidy.

“Being part of community activity improves mental health which is important now more than ever as we face such uncertain times so we hope members of the community will join us to support Keep Britain Tidy and the Great British September Clean.”

Pledge to pick as part of your daily routine or organise a clean up with up to five friends or family. Aylesbury Town Council can provide Litter Pick Kits which includes high vis jackets, bin bag hoops, litter pickers and bags to make your pledge that bit easier. Email Aylesbury Town Council at info@aylesburytowncouncil.gov.uk or call 01296 425678 to get yours.

Keep Britain Tidy Deputy Chief Executive Richard McIlwain said: “The overwhelming response to last year’s Great British Spring Clean showed that hundreds of thousands of people who love where they live and are prepared to take action to make it better for themselves, their families and their communities”

“We are delighted that Aylesbury Town Council is supporting this year’s campaign and would like to thank them for their support”.

“Without councils across the country giving the campaign their backing, our volunteers would not be able to do the incredible job they do.”

The campaign, in partnership with the Daily Mail, is made possible thanks to headline partners Co-op, Mars Wrigley, Red Bull and Wilko and is supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. The campaign is also supported by Clear Channel, Coca-Cola, Pepsi MAX and Walkers.
