Many marvelled at our first community event of the year. St George’s Day Victorian Historical Fayre and Parade returned in a brand-new format on Sunday 24 April 2022.

The Victorian Historical Fayre with Dr Melford’s Travelling Show took place in the garden of Discover Bucks Museum. Punters wondered at the World’s Strongest Man, Bone the Seer and other mind-bending curiosities in the museum’s garden. There was also an opportunity to meet Her Majesty Queen Victoria who wowed her audience at the free family-friendly event.

Everyone was welcome as the Town Council included a sensory room and sideshows were BSL signed by Hand Talking as part of the Fayre.

The day finished with a spectacular parade around Aylesbury’s Market Square led by St George on horseback followed by a dragon by Queens Park Arts Centre, Amersham Marching Band and representatives from Aylesbury’s Uniformed Youth including Scouts, Guides and Army Cadets.

Town Councillors and Town Council representatives were in attendance alongside the Mayor of Aylesbury, Cllr Anders Christensen and invited dignitaries including Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, Countess Howe, The High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire Mrs Debbie Brock DL, Chairman of Buckinghamshire Council Cllr Zahir Mohammed, Mr Rob Butler MP and Station Commander RAF Halton Mr Dan Startup.

The Mayor of Aylesbury said: “This was our first event of the year and what a day it was. I’d like to thank everyone who came to the Fayre and Parade and enjoyed the specular performances and sideshows.

“Thank you to the 300+ participants who made the parade so fantastic. It was a real joy to see so many people in Market Square to celebrate the day.”
