Events – 2019

Thursday 14 and Thursday 21 March, 2019

This years competition was a tough one – with the judges torn as who to select to perform on the Main and Second Stages at this years Live in the Park.

The judging panel of 5 at last agreed to award The Vandavils the main stage slot; Lewis Branch to second stage slot and a Wild Card onto the Second Stage for the Flintlock Rifles.

Some bands were so good that they have been saved for the 2020 line-up.

Tuesday 23 April, 2019

This years St George’s Day Celebration saw the side from Towersey Morris Men and The Three Horseshoes visit a number of local care homes and the town centre of Aylesbury.

As you can see from the pictures lots of fun was had by all.

This exhilarating amateur Soapbox Derby took place on Sunday 16 June, 2019.

Not only was there brilliant racing, there was also a host of other activities on offer including music from DJ Dan Blaze, Ride-on Little Tikes for the little ones, swing boats, drumming, crafts, games and much more, all for FREE. There was a special visit from SantaPod Raceways who brought an impressive Drag Car – luckily it didn’t take part in the races.  We had a BBQ, along with The Works with their very popular ice-cream bike, and The Coffee Stop, for those that didn’t bring a picnic.

We would like to thank all of the teams who took part in the race and congratulate them on designing and racing totally brilliant karts. Our thanks also to the volunteers on the day – cadets and officers from TVP Aylesbury Vale, Rogue Racing, Queens Park Arts Centre, HW DRUMS, FBL Broadcasting and to all of our suppliers who kept you all safe, entertained and catered for.

Special thanks to Jewson’s in Aylesbury who sponsored the event by supplying lots of the materials needed to run the event.  In addition to awarding the first “Community Spirit Award” which was proudly given to the team from Broughton Bullet.

Sunday 7 July, 2019

In an exciting change to this long standing popular event, Aylesbury on Sea moved to Vale Park with the inclusion of 60 tonnes of golden sand.

Over 3,500 people enjoyed the glorious sunshine whilst playing in the sand, as well as donkey rides, palm tree climb, Punch & Judy, a land train, face painting and a host of games, crafts and activities.

The talented crew from Unbound Theatre entertained the crowds with a brilliant and unique performance of Treasure Island.

Saturday 20th, 2019

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the landing on the Moon, we teamed up with the brilliant local charity UK Astronomy, to bring Moonday to the centre of Aylesbury.

It was an inspiring, educational and fun day – jam packed with fabulous things to see, do and learn.

Live in the Park, Saturday 24 August, 2019

The sun shone and the crowds came to enjoy a fantastic day of live music, family fun and free entertainment.

Dolly & The Dinosaur, Gypsyfingers, The Ukes of Hazard, Lewis Branch, The Flintlock Riffles and Jamie Felton entertained the crowds on the Mix96 Second Stage.  The main stage was filled by Who’s Got The Dog, The Horse Tornadoes, Chris da Ambassada, Vandavils, NBS, Little Brother Eli and headlined by Callow Saints.

All of the performers are local to Aylesbury and entertained the crowds with a mixture of original and cover tracks.

In addition to the live music there were traditional fun fair rides and loads of free activities in the CIA (Community Involvement Area), including face-painting from Zoomania Aylesbury, safe sun-gazing with UK Astronomy Events, music lessons from XYZ Music Academy and badminton skills with Affinity, lucky dip with Tesco Aylesbury 2 Community raising fund for the Mayor’s charity Youth Concern, along with a huge range of fun, games and activities provided by 20 local businesses and organisations.

We take great pride in making this free community festival accessible to all.  We work closely with BuDS to continue to improve and develop all accessibility elements across the weekend.  We are the proud holders of the first Fair-4-All Events award, and the Parklife Weekend is our Flagship event.

Lots of thanks must go to Marie and her friends from Hand Talking who provided BSL sign for the entire event – they were amazing and opened up the event to so many more people – thank you

Proms in the Park on  Sunday 25 August, 2019

2019 saw the biggest Proms crowds to date, with over 4,500 local people enjoying the outstanding music performed by the Aylesbury Concert Band, accompanied by Alison Langer and Lawrence Thackery.  The theme was “Childhood memories” which took the audience on a musical journey across the past 5 decades.

During the interval we were entertained by the students of Vivo D’Arte School of Theatre Arts, based at the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre. With a fantastic program of belting show tunes.

The entire weekend’s free festival was rounded off by a fantastic firework display from Frontier Fireworks.

We brought the Tudors to life at interactive historical fayre on Sunday 8 September, 2019

The story of the Terrible Tudors was brought to life in the Museum gardens by the talented crew of Unbound Theatre, with lots of giggles and lessons along the way. Joining them in the garden, were the brilliant Aylesbury Academy of Arms, who performed some breath taking sword displays. Plessis Armouries were on hand too showing how swords and armour was made.

King Henry VIII, a navigator, confectioner, spinner, musicians and engineers were all inside the museum.
This year saw the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci. His engineers brought several of his machines and inventions for you to see, including his portable bridge, gun carriage, and crane.

Lost in Time, took place at Bucks County Museum on Saturday 11 and Saturday 18 May, 2019

Visitors were guided around the museum by the mad Professor and her side-kick, as characters from all over history emerged through a hole in time trying to reek havoc in Aylesbury.

This creative submersive play was written, directed and performed by the guys from Unbound Theatre.

Festive Family Fun took place on Sunday 8 December, 2019, in Friars Square and Market Square

The day was jam packed film based festive cheer.  We were joined by Frozen Princesses, Darth Vader, Chewbacca and some very special Storm Troopers including a very rare Santa Trooper.  As always all of the entertainment, games, crafts, activities and fun fair rides were free of charge to participate.  All of our visitors had a great time.

Thanks to the crew from Unbound Theatre who treated the audience to a rib ticking show all about Captain Christmas and his evil arch enemy Dr Sprout.

Carolfest took place on Sunday 9th December, 2019 in St Mary’s Church 

With the largest crowd we have ever had at this event, over 500 of you enjoyed taking part in our community carol service.  Carols were lead by Next Stage Choir, Caduseus Brass Quintet and the children from Bedgrove Junior School – thank you for doing an amazing job!

Our host for the evening was Dez Kay from Stoke Mandeville Hospital Radio and we were honoured that Marie from Hand Talking provided BSL interpretation for those who are hard of hearing, making this event even more accessible to our visitors.

Mince pies were kindly donated by Tesco Tring Road and refreshments were expertly served by the smiling volunteers from the Scouts.

Thank you to each and everyone of you who helped make this a beautiful evening and raising a fantastic £622 for the Mayor’s charity Youth Concern.
