Aylesbury Town Council are currently recruiting the following positions:

Job Title: Playworker (with Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Childcare or Playwork or Teaching)

Location: Jonathan Page Play Centre, 147 Meadowcroft, Aylesbury

Responsible To: Playleader

SPECIFIC CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The following specific conditions/requirements apply to this post. These are not binding: a statement of the Main Terms and Conditions will be included with a full offer of employment.

Salary:                       £7,862.32 per annum (£17,092 full time equivalent)

Job Grade:               2 / 3

Hours per Week:    22.5 – Term Time (Monday to Friday 1.30pm – 6.00pm)

Annual Leave:       The current annual leave entitlement is 105 hours (21 days plus 2 statutory days full time equivalent)

Pension:                    Local Government Pension Scheme

Uniform provided:   Polo Shirts, Fleece and Rain jacket and sun cap

Childcare:                 Discounted childcare for children aged 4 up to 13 years attending at JPPC

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974

This post is defined as “Regulated Activity” (in accordance with the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act – as amended)

This post requires an enhanced DBS check

JOB PURPOSE

To plan and deliver play activities for children as part of a team overseeing the general running of a secure play centre within the framework of JPPC’s policies and procedures. Ensure the safe provision of travel to, access to, and use of the centre following OFSTED guidelines and the Early Years Statutory Framework. Assist with the administration and promotion of the centre to ensure and develop high standards of customer care.

Key Knowledge & Skills and Job Specific Requirements

  • Qualifications at level 2 or 3 in childcare or Playwork (essential)
  • Relevant experience of working with groups of school age children
  • Sound understanding of child protection and safeguarding regulations and procedures
  • Understanding of the importance of play in children’s development
  • Understanding the issues of equal opportunities
  • Sound judgement and common sense
  • Willingness to train and applying learning from training within the settings
  • Sufficient understanding and use of English to ensure the wellbeing of the children*

Desirable qualities

  • Experience of working within a play/nursery based setting
  • Experience of administration
  • Competent in using IT to support play and centre administration
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Appropriate child protection training
  • Current Paediatric First Aid Certificate
  • Food Hygiene Certificate

Usually between 1.00pm – 6.30pm Term Time and 8.00am – 7pm in School holidays

Hourly Rate:          £7.83 per hour / £8.21 from April 2019

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Essential

  • Physically able to move equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults whilst maintaining high customer care.
  • Ability to contribute to, co-operate with a small team.
  • Flexible approach
  • Reliable and good time keeper
  • Demonstration of initiative
  • Willingness to undertake training and apply to work

Desirable

  • Level 1 coaching qualification or relevant experience.
  • Level 2 or Level 3 in Childcare
  • Relevant experience working with groups of school aged children and young people whether paid or voluntary.
  • Paediatric First Aid qualification
  • Food hygiene qualified.
  • Ability to use cleaning equipment and carry out basic cleaning procedures.
  • Availability weekdays, holidays and for some events evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with and contribute to a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults.
