We strive to nurture employee wellbeing, maintaining excellent communication and professional relationships with one another – our employees are important to us.

About this role

This is a newly formed role, which will suit a candidate who has the drive to initiate and deliver an ambitious, creative and engaging approach to support those who are currently underrepresented within the parish – our youth.

You will have the creative freedom to not only establish the ‘why’ but also the ‘how’, discuss and agree the process with the Communities Committee, then jump in to achieve it.  This role will suit someone that is energetic, passionate about youth development and tech savvy.

Job responsibilities

  • To ensure the youth of Aylesbury Parish are reached and are represented across all aspects of the Council’s work.
  • To plan and deliver strategies which will ensure that every young person in the parish has the information, knowledge and opportunity to engage with the support and services which meets their individual needs.
  • This will require establishing, building and maintaining healthy and productive relationships with an extensive variety of existing youth provisions including charities, schools, clubs, groups, organisations, churches and the Local Authority.
  • Initially the role will require researching all opportunities which are currently available. To create an appropriate system which will enable you to continuously identify and track relevant opportunities, and ensuring it remains up to date.
  • Effectively communicate with the youth of Aylesbury Parish, using a variety of channels and processes. Likely to include social media and workshops within schools and established settings, along with other channels.
  • Continuously assess and evaluate the communication methods used, to improve and evolve.
  • Use a wide variety of communication methods and opportunities to ensure the currently un-engaged have the information and opportunity to become engaged.
  • To work closely and effectively with the Events Team to ensure the youth of the parish are represented at ‘in person events’ and have the opportunity to engage.
  • To support, mentor and guide the existing Youth Town Council (YTC). This will involve being the Clerk to the YTC, alongside supporting them in their initiatives.
  • To seek out existing opportunities where young people’s voices can be heard, then ensure appropriate representation is made.
  • Over time, ensure that young people’s voices are not only heard, but their opinions are acted upon, with appropriate and suitable feedback provided.

Person specification

  • A huge drive to support, encourage, guide and mentor youth in our community.
  • Youth related qualifications are desirable.
  • Previous experience of working with youth is desirable, this could come from a variety of paid or voluntary work experience.
  • Strong organisational skills, ability to work under your own initiative and to effectively prioritise work structures and processes.

  • Deliver great customer service building on relations with internal and external stakeholders, as well as the youth themselves.
  • Competent to intermediate level in Microsoft Office programmes such as Word and Excel.
