Sunday 24th April, sees a free family fun day in celebration of England’s patron saint St George, combining a commemoration of the work of William Shakespeare as it’s also the 400thanniversary of his death at the same weekend.  All of the entertainment, games, craft and activities are free.  The fun starts at 11am in Market Square Aylesbury, lasting until 4pm.

See the marvellous, mechanical, bubble, breathing dragon (we know it should be fire, but bubbles are more fun); learn sword fighting and archery skills of old; listen to the Yarnsmith weave tales of dastardly dragons who terrorised, terrified damsels that were saved by brave and fearless knights.  There will be a host of games to play and pottery to paint along with other arts, crafts and even a spot of balloon modelling.

Actors from The Jubilee Players and Community Unity Projects will treat the audience to a modern interpretation of some classic Shakespeare, taking traditional Shakespearian text and translating into modern day language, showing how much this talented English gentleman brought to modern day language, showing that “all’s well that ends well”.  These productions will be alongside a very talented live harpist whose repertoire extends from Bach to Beyoncé and Mozart to Metallica, some of her pieces will be accompanied by ballet dancers from The Spotlight Dance School.

The annual scout parade starts at 2:45pm, led by The Amersham Marching Band, our very own St George and The Broughton Junior School dragon with over 200 Scouts, marching from Market Square to St Mary’s Church, for the annual affirmation service.  Returning at 4pm for the Scouts to be formally dismissed by the District Commissioner.

So for a great day out steeped in English history and culture, dowsed in good old family fun and entertainment, come and join the team from Aylesbury Town Council in Market Square from 11am – 4pm on Sunday 24 April.
